What Barbecue Means to Me

Barbecue has always been more than just cooking—it’s family, friends, and tradition. Growing up as a first-generation Canadian with Slovenian roots, I was surrounded by the sights, smells, and flavors of barbecue. From pigs on a spit to perfectly grilled pork chops and chicken, fire and smoke were constants in our gatherings.

In 2018, I took my passion to the next level, stepping into the world of barbecue competitions. I quickly realized that barbecue isn't just about the food—it's about the people. The barbecue community is made up of some of the best, most welcoming folks you’ll ever meet. Whether it's sharing tips, swapping stories, or simply standing around the pit with a cold drink, this world has given me friendships and experiences that go beyond the grill.

For me, barbecue is a way of life. It’s about carrying on traditions, pushing the limits of flavor, and most importantly, bringing people together. If you’re as obsessed with BBQ as I am, check out Grizzly Paw Smokers for my latest BBQ musings, competition updates, and recipes straight from the pit.
